Default Poly student

Hi guys, i'm currently 17, studying in singapore polytechnic under accountancy course. I realize that it would be difficult for me to get into the rat race to fight for local uni slots and i wish to plan ahead of me for the next 10years. Please feel free to comment

route 1 : poly -> ns -> work part time/ private uni part time -> work

route 2 : poly -> ns -> private uni full time -> work

I choose the route of private uni because i understand my capability and that i'm more to the soft skill instead of mugging. I don't wish to study so hard in poly for 3 years and ended up not being able to qualify to local university.

Both route 1 and route 2 require you to finish your polytechnic education and serve out your NS. Given that you're probably in Year 1 of polytechnic, it is too early to pigeonhole yourself to be "soft skills" and not "mugger". There are subjects in polytechnic that are mugger-type, academic, and then there's other subjects that give you an opportunity to show off your "soft skills" be it presentation skills, speaking, marketing, etc.

Given that polytechnic is going to be in your future and the future is what you make of it and how hard you work for it, there is no reason not to join the polytechnic rat-race to give yourself the best position and grades possible to make your decision after you finish your national service committments. If you actually worked hard enough, you could open up route 3, which is entry into one of the local university's degree programs. It is much too early to give up on working hard and just cruise through polytechnic.

At the end of the day, education in a formal tertiary degree institution still outweighs a part time degree in terms of ranking by employers.

if you are really the soft skills person, go and know your lecturers better. they can recommend you into big 4.

part time study n part time work is not ez. especially if you want a profession as a accountant/auditor.

if you dun wan to do the time, better to use accounting as a stepping stone n get other kinds of more general work.

The sad fact is that if you don't even try mugging,
you will never end up in a local university.

About 10% of poly grads make it to local university,
and if you end up there, there is more mugging,
if you want a good degree classification.

In the work place, no boss like lazy employees;
that's why, most prefer foreigners
