Sure why not? But naturally, there'll be less technical and more managerial/strategic work to be done. Your years of experience will be valuable for those.

A software engineer can be promoted to senior roles such as staff software engineer, senior software solutions architect, etc. So its certainly possible, but the job will be more managerial.
