does senior or staff engineer in govtech need to code? i haven't coded for years, doing more paper work nowadays. looking for somewhere to retire. is govtech a good place to go?

GovTech looks good on paper, but be cautious—especially if you're joining on a contract. Many contract staff have been led to believe they'll be converted to permanent roles, only to find out later that conversions are restricted behind the scenes. This means you could be doing the same work as a perm staff but with zero job security. If career growth and stability matter to you, think twice before joining.

i know some senior engineer in my team who seldom code. he just creates jira tickets and SRs with info obtained from others. Very often the info in those tickets isn't verified and has a lot of mistakes. The engineers just treat those tickets as placeholders. He said he can't code as he has no experience with the tech stack. He is like an admin/secretary and he doesn't seem to be concerned about his performance. Under the new Career Framework, senior engineer doesn't need to code afaik
