DSO (under Mindef)

Hi,

Can't seen to find any thread on DSO.

Anyone able to shine some lights?

Salary range - how much and a fresh grad from local uni gets?
Work life balance - Alot of OTs?
And the working environment

Unregistered 03-04-2017 08:02 AM

Also does anybody know if a position disappearing from the list of openeings available means they're looking at it or hired already?

Depends on your department and your project. It also depends on your competence. Work environment is generally good. All Singaporeans, 90 percent technical degree holders with excellent results, mostly guys. Results almost no office politics being played at the low level.

Does DSO not hire grads without honours? I've applied for 3 positions for the past 1 year and got no response at all.....

for technical grad positions you will need minimally a 2.1 to get called up.

Thanks for the info! I've applied for a general admin position though...also no response. Maybe the Honours thing applies across all roles.

For fresh graduate entering at TG6 level,
Annual Leave: 18 days
"Family Care Leave": 2 days

Average Performer is 3 months bonus (Performance Bonus) + 1 month (AWS aka 13th month)

Very little OT at the entry level, but may increase when you become more senior. Also, extremely dependent on the project deadlines and testing schedules, and the dept you're in

Unregistered 17-06-2017 03:33 PM

former DSO staff here. please avoid joining DSO if you are joining as a technicial associate (TG3, 4 and 5).

They treat those technicial associates like dirt somehow. need to do many things yet no recognisation to them. those phd scholars princpal member of technicial staffs might look down on those TAs also. also the benefits for TAs are inferior as compared to those TG6 and above. annual increment for them are also meagre. like less than $80.

for OT at least for the dept i was in, they expect you to stay until 7pm at least even if there is nothing urgent to do. office politics are there also with some rivality and conflict of interests within certain depts in DSO.

those phd sucholar suckers might excel in their technicial field but leadership qualities are very poor. even working for ST is better than working in DSO!

No bonus related to civil service mid/end year bonus. Performance bonus (PB-0.5 months) given in July, plus a 0.5 months in February for CNY and AWS(13th month) in December

Last year fresh grad 5k. (Assuming local university, i.e. NUS/NTU/SUTD)

Not sure if this year will increase / when it will increase.

Minimally 2.1 to get called up for interview. Getting in for internship may help to lower the bar.

Unregistered 07-10-2020 11:54 AM

Sorry to bring up this old thread, anyone got updated info on DSO salary package?

- What is bonus package like?
- Typically how long to promote? For tech and non tech role
- Salary range for each level?

Thanks!

Any chance a 3rd class EEE student gets hired by DSO?

Unregistered 24-04-2021 04:52 PM

DSO offered me even though I don’t have NTU NUS degree just a part time degree.

I guess it boils down to the relevant experience.

How long after the interview did they get back to you with the offer and what was the basic pay? Thanks in advance!

Engineering work experience. In fact the job don’t really require any specific engineering experience. Just need degree in engineering. However, the soft skills is what they lookout for.

Ya got quite a lot of scholars.

Depends on the division you go to, some divisions give scholar more opportunity, some no difference.

Look at it this way - if say half the population is scholar in some shape or form (DSTA overseas/local DSO midterm scholarship), there isn't much need to discriminate. Unlike in other places where there is a significant divide.

Unregistered 09-08-2021 03:33 AM

What's the base pay for a fresh grad as Member of Technical Staff?

Unregistered 30-09-2021 09:47 PM

Would DSO consider foreign scholars?

I am due to graduate next year from NUS but I am from Laos.

If you're not PR or citizen, no chance. In fact even if PR also probably low chance.

_bluehavens 03-10-2021 12:39 AM

Anyone knows what's the difference between DSO and DSTA? How to choose between the two?
