I think it's ok lei. Steve jobs also not technical but he made apple the most valuable company in the world lei
Nowadays who is considered "technical"? There's so much abstractions in the way we code. All of us are just putting code or framework together nia.
If you know how to setup instance are you considered technical compared to the aws DevOps engineer who coded ec2? No mah. Compared to the aws DevOps engineer you are considered non technical. He can also say the same things about you that you said about the mindef people. It's all relative so don't be so bitter lah

Ex-Project manager here, you are missing the point. Is not about being bitter. It is about having the professional skillset and job match.
If you have all these ex- mindef people here, what do they really know about the project requirements or high-level architecture? Or the product Veritas, backup solutions, or Fortinet products or other products to integrate into the project?
Can they go and present to customer how to gel and integrate the solutions across the architecture or how the solutioning integrates across one software to another ? or how the hardware and software gel together? They can go config or not?
Y you say this is not important? The biggest problem is you have all these ex- mindef colonel, 2 star, 3 star all come in with no technical experience and they don't bother to go and learn about the infra and the solution architecture. Then they go and meet high level cust and promise high high can deliver on project requirement.
U know who will suffer at the backend or not? PM, Engineers, maintenance and deployment, etc etc team will all suffer because of the promises all these so called no-horse run mindef people promise.
When they know next to nothing about the real challenges of the project and anyhow agree and promise without consulting their tech leads, pms and engineering teams.

Surprising to hear that alot of people complaining that mindef people promise sky high requirements to customers in place for their engineers. I’ll be surprised if any of them even read the tender specs or the contract in the first place. Most of the conversations I hear are ex- mindef project managers chit chatting about their newly found civilian lives in ST to their mindef customers. That’s how they get “returning” customers.
