Which is why I say everyone can see through the sweet talks to "retain talent" because what they promised and what eventually takes place are two different stories.
I used to have a colleague who was very experienced and hardworking. Lead many projects with high customer satisfaction. This colleague was headhunted by another MNC with supposedly good salary and progression.
Few years on, the bosses feel that this former colleague would fit well into a leadership role given the experience with the past projects and existing role at the MNC. Somehow they knew this colleague was leaving for another MNC so they tried to get this person back. They almost succeed, until the role was given away to the big boss favourite. End up the offer was only an M2 grade as a team lead and not M3 grade as manager and of course, reduced remuneration. This former colleague ended up joining with the other MNC which counter-offered.
The funniest thing was the bosses can bad mouth about this ex-colleague not keeping to the end of the promise.
