For those who chose to stay in MAS despite getting lower salary than industry, what were the reasons for staying?

See how you view MAS job vs industry job.
Industry job can be shitty even if higher pay. OT like a dog, unreasonable demands, attend late night calls with Head Office etc.
Really might not be greener on the other side.
Up to the individual and the job itself lor.

Officially, there are five performance ratings:
Exceptional - Far exceeds requirements in all areas of grade
Excellent - Exceeds requirements in most areas of grade
Good - Exceeds requirements in some areas of grade
Marginal - Exceeds some requirements of grade but partially meets some
Unsatisfactory - Does not meet requirements of grade
I got "Excellent" before (3+ months), and was told that this was the highest possible rating for individual contributors. If true, this means that "Exceptional" is likely only for those few managers who have more responsibilities than their pay grade indicates (usually very high potential ones whose responsibilities exceed rank) - they will get a higher performance rating and bonus to make up for it.
Each performance rating corresponds to a range in terms of months of bonus pay, which is also dependent on market conditions. So there is no fixed number of months for each rating, unlike other public sector agencies. For reference, the average performer got a bonus of 1.75 months in 2019 and 1.5 months in 2020.

life in mas is good.. instead of getting scolded by bosses and front office, i get to scold the banks!
pay wise, comparable to banks' back office.
hours wise, come office at 9.30, leave at 6. 2 hour lunch break. shiok ah. the hourly rate is off the charts.

75% of banks' back office pay is already higher than what warm bodies at outsourcing providers or at low cost offshore center earn. for an average person who can earn 8k/month, this is only like giving up 2k/month and less than half a million over 20 years. why can't these servants get into their head that the opportunity to work for MAS to serve the public for their life is worth more than half a million. management should seriously consider reminding these servants that society value them even lower than banks' back office to stop the complaining.
