To my knowledge there is no difference between contract and perm in terms of benefits. Either they will extend contract or change you to perm based on your performance. It doesn’t make sense they let go everyone who is on contract leaving the department empty. However contract bonus Low compared to perm I think.

Hi! Just wanted to get a sense of the employment timeline & process; how long does it typically take from being verbally offered a role to HR reverting on an agreeable package, and further to signing of contract? Appreciate advice from the community! Thanks

Hardly see any direct perm PS position.
As mid career, i guess majority looking for a stable job. PS offer the stability, sometime even work life balance. Contact base will be a big deterrence even if there's chance to convert.

Applied for several jobs at MAS but did not get shortlisted. :( Can anyone share which departments are easier to get into without relevant experience?

If your performance is not poor and your contributions are recognised, don’t see a reason why can’t convert to perm.

Depends on which title you are going for, AD and above all need relevant experience and skill set.

Try knowledge management, capital markets intermediaries, organisation development and planning, corporate service like procurement, consumer services.

As a person working in a generalist dept, would recommend you to join specialized dept like IT. Reason being your notice period will only be 1 month, easier to find jobs. Mine is 3 months FML.
Contract:
"if u subsequently intend the join the employment of external organisations MAS has dealings with, required to notify HRD at least 3 mths in advance."

It's reasonable since those who intend to jump to financial sector might have insider info from regulatory perspective, hence the extended notice period. Usually applies to middle mgmt and above.

Permanent roles are for replacement. There is a headcount freeze but not a decrease in headcount. Additional headcount requirements are filled by contract or traineeship

Did the position you applied for has "#sgunited"? think yours is sgunited contract. sgunited are two year contracts which started late 2020. A few sgunited contract people left, hence they reopen the vacancies but the end date remain Dec 2022..

Is it relevant experience? Many of the MAS job ads, I see they indicate DD/AD.

Yes, all my exprience is relevant experience in other stat boards. I applied a few MAS positions last year. One is AD/Associate. Rest of the positions are DD/AD. All applications status become "In Progress". But the position (AD/Associate) is the first one to call me for interview.

Don't know how MAS give the rank. A friend, who is Senior AD in a ministry, applied MAS but offered only AD. Senior AD in other stat board and ministry is considered quite high rank, as most stat board DD is division head level. MAS AD is low rank.

One staff is DD two year contract. One staff is AD perm. Which one is better in your opinion?
The DD two years contract is recruited under sgunited contract.
Guess it depends on individual whether they are more concern with the rank or perm

At the end of the day, if MAS offers a higher package, then the title doesn't really matter. Rather be a "low ranked AD" earning 10k then a "head" earning 8k.

10k is more like upper range of DD's pay.

The pay of DD, you referring to, is from MAS or from other gov agencies?

This is impossible unless your friend is directly headhunted for very deep expertise in a certain field.

Not hard to join as DD, you must have directly relevant experience, usually from industry.

If you join from other agencies in the public sector, usually they match your last drawn with the pay scale in MAS. If yr last drawn is within the AD range, they will give you AD. In most newly hired DD, you can expect the new entrants are from private sector as their last drawn are way higher than public sector.

Also, if you see position such as AD/DD, it also indicates tt the dept might have higher budget to hire a more senior role as compared to Associate/AD, where the latter might indicate tt the dept looking to hire a junior role. Even if offered AD, the pay might not be high and limited room to nego given the low budget the dept has.

Entry level DD (newly promoted) is around 9-10k, 10k is not the upper range.

Usually which departments have lower bonus? Is it the support ones like Finance/HR?

Not sure which departments have the lowest. Usually, they look at total compensation package and ensure it is benchmark against the industry with similar job function.

Also, since we are still in covid, increment n bonus tend to be lower.

I didn't get any increment after probation. Understand that first increment for newbies is at first year anniversary.
