How do you rate your job performance? 7% is very high with comparison to private sector counterpart.

Last but not least, how long does it take to get promotion? Any promotion increment?

Thanks for sharing ! Have a nice day ! :)

I think generally abt 5% for C, 7% for B.
Not many people will get A (top 5%).

Promotion is whatever you get for B/C, + maybe 5-7%.

Pay aside, work in DSTA is extremely hectic due to the demands of the govt. Certain projects may require you to fly frequently. It is a high tempo, high stress environment, but you also grow personally and professionally. Don't just go in for the pay.

I saw that DSTA recently put back the job position for Naval, Air, Land system engineer. Does it mean that i was not successful in the application? I did not receive any emails in regards to the position that i applied.

I reapplied for the position again, just in case.

I believe DSTA is always open to hiring top engineers throughout the year, therefore they will always have the job listed up on their website. If you are successful though, they will still contact you so don't worry about their job listing on the web. And they normally call instead of email.

u engine grad? Me not engine grad and applied for general admin position(s), so kinda expecting that they won't call me. Even if they do call me it will be a bonus.

IT more chance...but you have to take note that they probably have a huge pool of applicants to choose from since the salary package is damn attractive. So...perhaps u can try applying elsewhere.

U grad December? Not June July period? I think career gov will just keep auto post the same job advert if dsta hr never take down. I believe it is kinda same as jobstreet whereby similar positions keep recycling. Most likely they just let the positions continue to advertise and when they need ppl they can just select from the pool.

interview

how was the interview for dsta like? how many rounds? what sorts of questions if going for engineer position?

Unregistered 07-10-2013 12:31 PM

3 rounds of interviews.

1st round - with HR and it's just about knowing more about you, quite informal and they actually tell you about DSTA more than ask questions. 1st round seems mandatory, so i dont think it is used to assess you, it is more for getting all your neccessary documents and administrator stuff.

2nd round- with HR and directors. now they will ask you about your technical capabilities. like what is your specialisation, what is your favourite modules and why. what is your worst subject and why perform so badly?

3rd round- once u reach 3rd round u should be safe to say you are 80% being hired, unless you screw this round up. interviewer will be your direct supervisor.

wow, 3 rounds huh, i think that's more realistic. my friend told me that he went to a dsta booth in a career fair he attended and the HR personnel told him there's only 1 round.

Around 1 week. I'm in my final year now, haven't grad yet.

Is academic result a big part of their assessment? I'm in the dean's list right now, so as long as i don't screw up the interview, i stand a high chance right?

I have also done related industry internship.

It's not a secret that DSTA pays "ALOT for a fresh grad engineer".

Unregistered 13-10-2013 10:30 AM

high is one thing. don't be surprised one day like 10 years down the road wondering why u've hit the income ceiling and unable to find a better job due to niche sectors and nontransferable skills.

agree. so if you are confident u can outperform other people(singaporean+foreigners) in private sector, then dont go public sector.

ambitious go private.

Disagree with that generalization.
Do you know the many kinds of work that DSTA does?
There are many appointments in which you can pick up skills that will indeed be transferrable.

came back from interview.

There is a written test before the interview, and the test paper will be brought into the interview room for the interviewer to see.
