Are they only looking for NTU and NUS grads?

feels like that is the case over civil service, regardless of what they say...paper qualifications still king

Unregistered 06-05-2021 06:03 PM

i think will reconsider applying here. too many red flags from negative glassdoor reviews.

Hi, i got accepted by DSTA and have signed a conditional offer with DSTA and underwent all the medical checkup required but formal contract will only be signed on first day of work. However, i received another offer from the private sector and wish to rescind my offer with DSTA. Anyone knows if i am able to do it without paying back the medical fee?

Don't think its a good idea to owe money to public orgs... they may or may not chase you for it, but you never know if this will affect you in case you ever want to join the service 10-20 years down the road. Probably better to pay the relatively small amount than to leave a bad mark

you can do anything you want lah. no one can stop you if you don't show up on the first day.

but do your own due diligence and study your contract details. understand the possible repercussions of doing so before committing.

and of course don't expect to ever get another offer from this place in the future if you renege. so better make sure you don't ever wanna work here

Unregistered 15-05-2021 12:17 AM

how long does one get from e1 to e3?

Unregistered 15-05-2021 01:59 AM

DSTA starting pay is very high for non Computing, technical role, but what is the catch?

Slower increment or crazy workload, or both?

Typical government agency cons, e.g. red tapes, not flexible, dull work area, short-handed
Little transferable skills

pay is higher also cos defence has stricter requirements for clearance....so engineering pool is a lot smaller

Unregistered 15-05-2021 01:31 PM

dun think too much abt progression, there is no exact answer to this. just like everywhere else there is no XX years to YY grade and it is very different for everyone. how fast you go is dependent on many factors, like your portfolio, your skillset, your department, available vacancies and most importantly your boss.

and of course, whether you are scholar or not is also a factor :)

Unregistered 15-05-2021 02:53 PM

$5k starting pay for technical non scholar.. but how is the increment like?

Unregistered 15-05-2021 08:34 PM

toxic stat board where you have to face unreasonable SAF people all the time. better off joining some other stat board with less oppressive culture. the high pay is not worth it

Hi, anyone applied for DSTA engineer job post. Applied on 5th April, until now there is no call for interview. Checked online and it is still under submitted. Anyone is experiencing the same thing as me ?

this is standard in public service HR, the rejected status will be updated in careers@gov donkey months later, or sometimes never depending on the agency. even if you are shortlisted they usually call you up months after application unless they are very desperate for manpower for that department (in which case might not be so good to join...) there is a high chance you might find a role elsewhere before they even take a look at your resume.

Hi. I just submitted an application for mgr(event management). Anyone any idea is this post less horrible than procurement exec that some of you here have warned about?

Unregistered 03-06-2021 09:04 AM

My DSTA application status turned from submitted to pre-screening. Any idea how long it takes from pre-screening to being shortlisted and called up for interview?

Unregistered 08-06-2021 05:50 PM

May i know when you applied ? im still in submitted state

I applied on 1Jun and saw on 3Jun (the closing date) that it turned to pre-screening. It has remained so. All the best to you.

Unregistered 08-06-2021 09:56 PM

May i know you applied for which role ? engineering ? All the best to you too :)

probably not as bad as procurement side but sounds like a pretty dead end support corporate role

Unregistered 17-06-2021 03:20 PM

think thrice before joining this place....this is an extremely toxic place to work in

Unregistered 17-06-2021 10:44 PM

Hi there! Saw some reviews that the workplace is toxic, would like to know more about the environment:) is the negative reviews due to the workload or other factors? Thanks!!

i think your question has been answered in many of the previous posts here, and also this thread s://forums.salary.sg/income-jobs/13768-defence-science-technology-agency-vs-defence-science-organisation-2.html

but generally it seems that the gist from the reviews is that procurement is shorthanded from high attrition, has heavy workload, poor training & mismanagement, bad remuneration and career progression and lack of respect and support by both SAF users and engineers.

engineer wise doesn't seem as bad since the pay is very high, but sounds like very little in the way of technical development and a lot of project management work.

Unregistered 23-06-2021 11:05 AM

Anyone received and accepted offer recently?

Unregistered 24-06-2021 04:56 PM

No, didnt even received a call for interview since april. Still under "application submitted status"

Unregistered 24-06-2021 06:22 PM

Mine was submitted back end March and still no change in status from "submit" when I accepted an offer this month, so I just withdrew.

Unregistered 30-06-2021 12:21 PM

Anyone knows how long DSTA took to get back after interview?

Not sure if it's the same for others; HR got back to me after 3 days. How did you feel the interview went?

You got a verbal offer?

For interview, it seems pretty average. Was wondering whether they will send a rejection email if we get rejected and how fast do they normally process it.

I received a call first before they sent me a provisional offer via email.

Perhaps, you can try to contact the HR staff who emailed you the interview details. I am not sure how long they take to reply usually, but from the older thread, it seems like they do take some time.
