The demoralization can be felt within weeks you are there because the boss has anger management issue and has the habit of "name and shame" you infront of internal and external parties. It just makes one feel so super unappreciated after long hours of working. People can't wait to leave for the sake of their mental well-being? In my point of view, i am actually quite shocked when my friend told me about such bosses because i thought such era should have long gone? And working in public service before we have a code of conduct to follow and i seriously doubted the capability of HR getting rid of such bosses.

Many people i spoke to agree that imda in general is working super long hours and is common to work past mid night because directions keep changing and so are the working document (e.g. PowerPoint) that is required to be submitted or presented to the management. It is all about amending papers and ppt to what the bosses would like it to be. The way my friend spoke about it makes me feel like, everyone is required to be a marketeer.
lols that division quite toxic one...the good ones all quit now only left with the bootlickers there

After working in IMDA for a couple of months, I am glad I left.

Most of the dynamic divisions mentioned have interesting stuff to work on, but be prepared for no life outside working 24-7 including weekends. This is due to the division directors not knowing what they want. You’ll be working on presentation files, uncommon u had more than 10 iterations before you realized you actually presenting the very first version. Bootlickers can survive well, management loves people who can talk their way through and smoke their way out.

Non-dynamic divisions like HR and Finance, that’s probably where you want to park yourself if you want to be lazy. Personnel from there rarely response immediately, some times take up to 1 week. They never take any initiatives and push any responsibilities back. Seems very political, good for people who love playing work place political game.

For anyone looking for doing real and good job, this is a depressing place to be.

Omg…. IMDA HR no standard compare to other company HR. They are bunch of useless people who are around to draw good salary and fat bonus. They don’t care about employees, just kowtow-ing to management.

middle management (i define them as AD, DD, D) always like to talk about the aesthetics of powerpoint slides instead of the actual content itself

the hopeless CE always like to talk about the application/approval process instead of the project itself...probably to hide his lack of domain knowledge

Are there any domain knowledge in the first place? Most public servants are generalists and pen pushers, not much domain knowledge there.

dear colleagues

i would like to ask is it imda culture to overly focus on the design aspects of ppt slides? i can't believe bosses are actually wasting time expressing opinion on whether to use a circle or arrow as bullet point instead of discussing the text I wrote for the bullet point. My colleague was told to change his pie chart from a darker to lighter shade of blue -_-

i worked at 2 other agencies before so i know how gov culture is like but imda is really next ****ing level

It's like that esp for public facing slides. I had similar exp working in consulting, partners were particular about presentation decks shown during client meetings.
