One of the sorriest things is how the poverty of leadership has affected staff. I work with IMDA on a near-daily basis and the sheer panic I hear in the voices of grown men needing to appease 'The Man' are such that I don't know whether to laugh or weep.

I can feel the abject terror radiating over the wires through my Skype chats, and every casual question about a piece of work is met with a pregnant pause as IMDA colleagues do some mental gymnastics to try and fathom if what they're going to tell me will land them in purgatory. These are mostly decent people I am dealing with, so it's a real pity to see them reduced to jelly at the thought of 'The Man' (an epithet which already sent my eyes rolling to the back of my head).

This culture of fear is patently unhealthy and I'm not sure what keeps many IMDA staff going. From what I know, the hours are long, and respect for staff is in short supply. I expect it's the relatevely decent pay, but even so, my sympathies.

the worst part is LeeCher Hong himself isn't even an expert but expects his staff to execute his outmoded/impractical ideas

i know someone who is working there as an Assistant Manager in film classification dept. Is AM the lowest rank there since all the job titles in stat board are inflated? i don't know he can tahan working there for 5 years

I think whether you're from PDPC or IMDA, at the very least for public facing events, present a united front and promote the advisory guidelines together right.

If I'm doing corporate comms/PR for imda, I will surely puke blood. No matter how good the corporate narrative and marketing campaign, such a divisive spirit in these jokers will undo all the efforts. No wonder so many directors from the previous batch of marketing and comms left.

The state of IMDA and comments here are tragic. Even more degrading for someone like myself who joined the org recently. The culture and work here is tough, efficiency levels are poor but if anything, I have nothing but respect for the people who have been able to put up with all the tough fights and worked hard through the hours. It's really sad that people externally would not see this if they have the perception that IMDA's work accounts for nothing and that people in the org are deemed unfit for any other role outside of IMDA. Having joined this cursed place for a few months now I can say for sure that it's unlike any challenge that I've faced in my career. The work is tough, the processes are warped, managing the people even harder. If anything, the people who manage the survive this place are mentally tough people, who have either decided to sacrifice their personal life for this place or just have no life but are willing to clock in the hours and enslave themselves to work. In short, the survivors here, disregarding the cruisers but to the people who have truly worked hard, are incredibly resilient and respectable. We should still give credit for the quiet ones who have tolerated this madness.

As for LCH, as much as he is unpredictable and harsh is his ways sometimes, you've to admit, his intellect isn't for everyone,and often he has a point. Not sure if he's too smart for his own good or if people like myself are just finding it hard to match up to his level of quick thinking.

I interviewed at another gov agency previously. Was asked to walk through my resume, explaining why I chose to join and leave each org. I did it in chronological order and when I finally reached IMDA which is the most recent, one of the interviewers stopped me and said "it's ok we all know there are problems there and it's reasonable that many people like yourself want to leave"

The other interviewers and the HR person lol-ed. I felt so awkward because I cannot disagree with his statement.
