Those who have to take big loans to buy car, should not be buying. If everyone follows this simple rule, then the roads will be less congested and more enjoyable to drive.
But the situation now is that if you don't own a car you lose face. Lose face to relatives, colleagues and neighbors. Very sad. Used to be that owning a car was a status symbol, now owning a car is just to keep pace with others. So in order to be a little ahead of others, many are owning 2 cars. This is giving people like me who are in condo MCSTs a big headache in allocating limited carpark lots.
I have a resident who purposely bought a second car to chop a lot. He seldom drive that BM coupe, driving only on weekends. He did it just because another resident has 2 cars and was asking for the extra lots. Some more our condo is right next to an
MRT station!
I don't know about the situation in
HDB car parks, but I can only guess it will be just as bad.

Like car, no need to buy. Just use taxi, rent, car pool etc.
Why does anyone want to be saddled with an expensive depreciating asset?
