Everyone has different expectation of retirement, some want to retire in JB, some want to Retire in Singapore, Thailand so on and so forth. By your argument most of us can move to Laos which is even cheaper than Malaysia.

If I want to retire it will either be in Singapore or a country better than Singapore with a colder climate i.e (Australia, New Zealand etc).

We all share different goals, so don't be too quick to judge others.

I now own a 5 room exec flat which I paid up. When I retire at 65, I will rent it out for $4k pm or $48k pa. My wife and I will also get $1.2k each pm from our CPF life. So we get $28.8k pa. In total our passive income is $76,800 pa. We plan to retire in Malacca, so after converting to RM, we will get RM200k pa. We will retire in luxury with this amount of money. See, so simple to retire.
