People put it down because it's too limited in jobscope.
Think of it this way, you have to take another course to work in aerospace regardless of degree. It's sort of like professional test, or bar exam for engineers. The pre-requisite is mechanical engineering, EEE, or aerospace engineering degree.
This is the trick. If, you are in either of these three, you can get to the same end point. Why would you want to limit your career option by taking an aerospace degree? If you graduate and decided not to work in aerospace, how?

i'd advice you to go for mechanical/EEE. It's RELATIVELY easier to score in those courses due to the higher intake and hence, higher number of people getting good honors.
