In early Dec, was told by HR i am shortlisted for the position about 3 weeks after interview and asked for permissions to do reference checks. Today I received an update from HR that they are still reviewing candidates and will get back soon. Now the HR is telling me that i am still being considered.

It does seem like a u-turn right? Does it seem like a lost cause?
