Most gave up during med school.. from my own experience. Most of my friends too entered medicine thinking it’s an easy way to make money. Until you start to realise the dredgery of clinical placements and exams. At this point, one can hardly fathom more years of hard work (residency).
Especially so when you see your classmates in other fields already married or buying houses. While you are still stuck in public and having to be on-call.
