if you are already PGY 5 , most likely they dont like you for some reason (e.g how you look , how you speak, your origins etc) or no reason at all . also, the more senior you are, the harder it is for you to enter residency because they expect that since you are a PGY 5 your skills must be 3 years better than PGY2 , and there is a stigma against PGY 5 that no residencies want them for the past 5 years, so why should a program take their chance with you? as ridiculous as it sounds, that's how program directors and faculties feel.

if you did your job well, did not try to play politics etc, and you were denied a spot in residency , it is OK, god will bless you in other ways. also, karma is real.

I am saying this because the people who hated me and blocked me from residency for no reason got it worse, e.g daughter passed away young from a terrible disease.

In the end I take it as a blessing in disguise that I do not have to stay in a toxic environment.
