Where are you training now?
The auzzie system is a bit unique.
Their taxation is v high.
45 percent above 180k.
Every dollar U earn is 45 cents gone.

So really no point struggling 5 years to get into surgery. Traine another 5 to 8 years
Then no consultant spot when U come out
Become a fellow for another 3 to 5 years waiting for some consultant to die or retire because a spot opens up.
By the time U make 500k annual, maybe ur career left 10 years only
Tax takes away 45 percent.

Vs gp training. 3 years finish.
Pgy4 U can make 200k
Tax not so high. Maybe about 40k tax. left 160k.
Nowadays I see gp job in auzzie quoting 300k to 500k annual so maybe overall package improve
Start to enjoy ur life earlier. Invest earlier.
Probably have more money at retirement than a surgeon.
