Theres alot to learn working as a process tech in an oil company. for a start you will have to do line tracing to know ur plant liineup well and understand how the process works. Operating/troubleshooting equipments in the plant and handling upsets are just some things a pt has to learn along the way. Other than just process knowledge, you will need to understand mechanical/instrumentation stuff also. So the learning never quite stops as engineers will also always find ways to optimise the process plants and there will be changes here and there.
Paywise for a fresh grad(nitec vs poly), annually it will be around 40k for nitec and 45k for poly on average exclusive of overtime pay. As u work longer and rise to senior tech/supervisor posts, annual pay of 100k+ is actually quite common.
Shiftwork is compulsory as the plant runs for 24hrs/day so be prepared to sacrifice your sleep and weekends for ur job. Think abt how your lifestyle will be like once u are part of the shift system and decide for yourself if this is the kind of life u want.
Personally I wouldnt encourage pple to work as a pt due to the hazardous environment u face all the time and the irregular sleeping patterns u have to go through plus the precious family time u sacrifice on weekends.
