MOE should pay its good teachers decently.
“The average salary of a full-time tutor who teaches with us for at least one year is about $16,000 a month. I have a 24-year-old who makes $24,000 a month. I’m constantly on the lookout for good teachers,” says Mr Heng, whose tutors work on a commission model.
Even SEOs cannot make this kind of pay in
MOE while doing all kinds of work unrelated to teaching.
In the private sector, the higher the levels you can teach, the more the hourly rate you can receive. In the
MOE, more work can equate to the same or even less pay.
Sadly, by looking at the number of KP STs per school, it seems that good teachers are not valued properly while the wayang ones are those who get disproportionate pay while making everyone else lives miserable.
