Doesn't this apply to every single job out there? But obviously the organisation is going go keep good performers. It's harder to let people go in the civil service, and so the longer probation period helps to weed out those who are trying to 'smoke' their way through. Its not like the pay or benefits are any different during this contract period either.
But at the end of the day, you cant please everyone. But everyone has a choice, and that is to walk away if you don't like the rules
