Yes, except you are asked to direct your minds towards a certain goal/solution. it's a slight difference from the "answer both sides" mentality we have in school.
It depends on the firm, in some firms, your "hypos" may just be a series of Q&As based on a hypo with the lawyer on your chosen field, in others, the hypo may just be the same hypo given throughout the entire TC-applicant batch (but will be focused on more general commercial/business law subjects).
