In my day, if you failed part A, you are considered cmi. That's grounds for immediate non retention by most big law firms. Who would trust a trainee who failed a run of the mill, non bell curved, just-need-to-pass-only exam? If you failed on second attempt, you should seriously consider giving up law.

They increased the standard for part A to fail more people on purpose la. Don't think you are better than them please, in your day part A/B was just a rite of passage. Now the SG govt wants to delist some Aussie Unis but can't because of our FTA, so part A is their way to curb the influx.
