Overseas, NUS > SMU of course. SMU reputation overseas is that of a degree mill. You'd be better off doing a law degree at RMIT if you wanna go overseas.

Locally speaking, you need to understand that
NUS has a whole lot more history than
SMU.... and unfortunately, that means a prevalence of '
NUS-old-boys'-club' mentality. There are still partners around who only take on
NUS grads.
This is not a comment on the actual abilities of an
NUS grad vs an
SMU grad, simply that there are a lot of old school people in the industry who continue to believe in only their alma mata. You can tell lah, if you look at their teams/past trainees & assocs.
