Think alot of places are moving towards offering contract positions first cos of the higher turn over in the newer generation of workers..not too sure if it's the only reason though. It's not very good in my opinion cos the incumbent will not be considered for any promotion during the contract period..and even if he/she gets converted to a perm position after a year, I wonder whether his/her performance appraisal would begin from that year onwards or would performance during the contract period be considered as well? Iz anybody's guess..
