I'm not from a private uni, but I've seen some private degree holders clinch pretty decent jobs! Give SIT/SUSS a shot before you decide to go for a private degree. It's important that you work really hard during your university days and try to stand out in terms of internships etc.

The barrier to entry for most jobs is a bachelor's degree, unfortunately. I would recommend going for a general business degree (you can choose to specialise in marketing if you're interested). Digital marketing is possibly the most practical skill in the workforce so it'd be good if you can pick that up.

As for management programmes (I recently got in one), unfortunately, I've not seen a private degree holder among my batch. Based on statistics, the chances are pretty slim. However, don't give up hope! Give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, work hard in direct entry roles and I'm sure you'll do well.

All the best!
Don't give him/her false hope lah. SUSS is a local uni in name only. In practice everyone knows it's SIM trying to pin a ribbon on top of their dung of a degree.

Marketing is the most useless major, probably even more so than HR. If TS isn't a chiobu or a Andy Lau hunk he/she can be prepared to be lowballed on salary and earn a pittiance way into their 30s even. Go look at how much entry level digital marketing roles pay, I think even less than HR.

Management programmes? With a private uni degree? Might as well buy Toto and pray to cai shen ye for big huat.
