Were you a 100% reject or did they say because the position is filled up already, they will contact you if they have more openings?

For me, I got a call, and the recruiter said the position is already filled but they will keep in touch with me and let me know if they have openings.
I am very sad at the moment but at the same time a bit relieved to hear that it's not a 100% NO, but I am just curious what are the chances of Apple getting back to me?

For all we know, it could take months, or even a year, right?

Anybody know anyone who was offered a job after being "waitlisted" for openings?
If yes, how long did it take for Apple to get back to them?
