thanks Shaz. I got handed a pretty major (well, in terms of what I have been handling so far) assignment for my organisation. Will definitely look to ace that so that I can shine.

Hello! I'm a 32yr old guy and working in a large Ministry for the last 3.5 years. Was previously in a Stat Board for about 2 year. Crazy work hours so I took a pay cut in 2007 to go to Ministry. I've a Aussie degree (pass only & did in Australia). Here's my salary progression for 5.5 years:

    26: Sep 2005 (Stat Board): $2700
    27: Dec 2006 (Stat Board): $2900
    28: Jul 2007 (Stat Board): $3250
    28: Aug 2007 (Ministry): $3025 (MX13)
    29: Apr 2008 (Ministry): $3500 (MX12) - x 3 month bonus
    30: Apr 2009 (Ministry): $3650 (MX12) - x 3.5 month bonus (B grade)
    31: Apr 2010 (Ministry): $4000 (MX12) - x 4.5 month bonus (B grade)
    32: Apr 2011 (Ministry): $4500 (MX11) - x 4 months bonus (B grade) - so far

Despite being a normal pass degree holder, you can see that the Ministry gives me a better than average grading and I even got two promotions within 4 years...

There are many factors when it comes to determining CEP. Firstly, there are two type of MX11. One is considered a middle-manager with staff to manage. The other is more of a specialist MX11 where the officer tends to take on more work and tougher assignments.

When I was MX12, I had a few CSOs to manage and was involved in many projects. Easy to get ranked higher and get better CEP. Now that I'm MX11, I'm doing a lot more work and projects as I've no staff to manage.

Doing projects is beneficial but the trick is to be involved in inter-departments projects. When it comes to ranking, your boss has to fight for you with other bosses. If the bosses from other departments know you, then you'll be in a good light especially if you are part of their project and doing good work...

hi i have some questions about the civil service. Im a fresh grad MX13 coming to about a year now, will probably get confirmed and promoted to MX12 soon.

How long did u take to go from MX12 to MX11? Could I also know your PB grades from 12 to 11? I want to boost my CEP but im just a normal grad. should I try pushing for new projects and initiatives to impress or will it just not matter at all?

Lastly, if you don't mind revealing, how was your pay progression like, such as increments and promotions?

    Thanks!
