How objective are appraisals, really?
We are always told that senior management will ultimately do an objective appraisal, but I'm curious because they aren't the ones supervising us and if our bosses don't want us to advance, they can easily keep our visibility and capability down.
I was previously under 2 bosses who gave me competent-exceeding grades yearly. 2 years ago I got a new boss (the previous 2 quit) and since then my grades have become below-average for the past 2 years. And the previous bosses are no longer around to defend me.
In a situation like this, can we ask HR to reasses our grading based on past appraisals? Like why is it we used to have good performance gradings but a new boss's given grades are substantially different?

Craps, my friend got 3 awards but got a D grade out of it.
He feel ashamed of the awards he won which is R&D and industry awards.
Its the inner group and outer group things.

appraisals = likely is bullsh!t
As far as I am concern, working in Local GLC, if the boss/management like you, then you get A/B performance, if not shall be C/D...
It is more of carrying their ball(sssssss)....
got 1 year getting best employee award from company president, but still getting C for my performance. U see.....something is wrong with the appraisal system.
have seen before other employee(s) making multiple serious error during work which lead to customer complains, but, instead of getting warning letter, they still getting A/B. Even with warning letter issue to them, they still getting A/B..........because bosses like them.......
