Also, will doing any of the above cause me to be "blacklisted" in any way? My reason is poor job fit and i think it would not serve the org or me well if i were to stay on.

This is a matter of your own integrity and sense of honesty - I know many might say to perhaps accept emplacement & leave in 2months for new job. To me, one's reputation esp.after one has left company, is key.

Btw, you have not got the new job am I right? If so, it would be easier - you never know when you would get it. Would advise to talk to your RO and explore possibility of transfer to another division or branch if suitable/fit. If your character had always been above-board and acceptable,no one will hold you to it. Blacklist? For? There are bigger things then to do that to a new non AO entrant.

Executive positions, if nothing specific for accounting graduates, see if there are related ones-in any case in cs, generic disciplines may end up doing finance or audit related work too,if they are good at it. My colleague is a good eg. Biology graduate, 44yo, joined MOE 2006, school Administrative Mgr, left to do finance/procurement work at Hq in 2009, since 2011 headed finance unit, now finance section (17 staff). Another colleague was with MTI then joined the finance section in mid 2014, now 2nd IC finance section. She was accounting graduate.

Unless you have a good start, is the more favourable one (also implies qualities/personalities between yourself and RO) can also perform well at work, being an accounting graduate in the cs generic scheme, is just another graduate in say, social sciences, science, business, engrg, etc. another head of section who had studied accountacy at NTU, back in the accountancy faculty prestigious days, now 50, isn't doing any accountancy work at all. She's overall IC of administrative /hr services in section. So don't get too hyped up if you want to join cs - sometimes it calls for prestigious results to get into your discipline of study. That's why good ones who know their path n calling will join the big 4.

Hi, I graduate from local university with a second upper honours in 2013. Worked as a manufacturing engineer for 2 years and then changed to an IT job which I am still currently working in. Thinking of changing to a civil service/public service job recently as I am seeking more balance in my career as I have a new born coming my way and the current job has horrendous working hours which will be a great challenge for me in taking care of my new born. I am currently drawing 4k at the moment and will like to know if I will have to take a pay cut if I changed to government sector. Thanks in advance for any replies.

You worry about getting through the HR selection and being invited for interview first. Now economy is bad, many people think of jumping to safe haven Civil Service. You are fighting with many applicants.

Hello,
I don't think you will get a paycut, perhaps even a pay rise if you join some statutory boards as engineers (i.e. DSTA). If you enjoy engineering / operational work, just focus on roles in statutory boards. They offer roles that are align more to your interests and skillsets. Ministries' work are more administrative and writing-centric (i.e. policy proposals) in nature, which might not sit well with you.
Then again, hours may not be as cushy as it used to be during our parents' time (i.e. 80s) since the advent of emails and VPN connection offsite. However, I believe the benefits will come in handy for you, given the abundance of leaves i.e. childcare leave and some unrecorded leave, that will allow you to spend more time with your new born.
All the best in your endeavours in searching for a new role in the civil service or public sector. Jia You!
