Default In need of advice

Hi guys, currently 26yr old and in need of some advice. I am currently working in oil and gas industry for 3 years and recently just graduated my degree in biomedical science. So I want to keep my options open.

Should I change job and continue under the biomedical line or should I take up other courses and stay in oil and gas. Currently, even with a degree, moving up the ladder isn't so easy as it seems. It depends on the opportunity and the availability of position.

another intention is, for me to take up MBA specialized in human resource and work human resource department. Of course, I'd stick to my company but then again, it still boils down to availability within the company.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

I suggest you focus on applying for jobs and see whether got any offer first then weigh pros and cons. Now with the poor economy, not even sure whether can get anything in the next 3-6 months. No offer think so much also no use.

As for Masters in HR my advice is not to waste time & money on it. The specialist positions in MNC/consulting are for high potentials freshies and they won't be interested in an inexperienced masters degree mid career. The generalist positions are very generic operations cum admin work that any part time private degree will do, so no need to waste money on masters.

agreed. try both and if got offers then can compare. economy outlook very glimmerish, getting one offer is already difficult...

Oil and gas industry quite cyclical. You should consider a career in the industry that you think you will do well. A MBA specializing in HR isn't going to be much of an advantage in either industry. Maybe you can consider a higher deg in applied economics, will definitely be more useful.

If you want to change into another job in a different industry, you will be considered as fresh grad without exp and draw fresh grad pay.

If your intention is to make a career switch and yet expect someone to offer you higher than what you are getting now then don't bother and stay where you are. You won't even get a reply in this economy.

As for studying MBA in HR agree with the rest, waste of time as you have no relevant work exp and your current exp is too junior to understand the high level concepts anyway.
