SG healthcare reaching new lows, on par with 3rd world countries in 2017
"SINGAPORE - The National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) has contacted 697 out of the 714 patients who may have been treated with equipment that had not been fully sterilised.
After receiving the call from NDCS, 115 turned up at the centre for further clarification.
The centre is also doing free blood tests for 92 of the patients who had requested for it, to check for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis B and C. "

Psychiatry
Good day folks, amazing forum!
Enquiry pertaining to recognition, I'm a Malaysian who has just completed the MRCPsych, with a total of 3 years in Psychiatry. Undergraduate degree is one not on the SMC list.
Would it be possible to come in and practice as a Registrar? And what about potential for climbing up the ladder as in subspecialty training programs, getting into one, and promotion to higher ranks.
Many thanks!

Short answer no. You can only apply to be a resident physician or service registrar(service means service position, not a training position) meaning cannot promote to consultant. However within the service scheme, there is promotion to senior or even principal staff physician. Pay is relatively good. Compared to average Singaporean pay.
If you are from um or ukm, you could rotate as a mopex (medical officer posting exercise) and try your luck repeatedly for psychiatry residency. May take a few years to get in. Two to three years at least. Then restart from residency year one again even though u have mrcpsych. At end of another five years you will exit from the program, can be called a AC. But likely to wait a while for an AC position, as current residency programs are quite healthy with sufficient number of candidates in the pipeline. So must wait for positions.
Alternatively what a lot of Malaysian or Indian graduates from non recognised med schs by smc is to go to the UK , complete the training there, get the CCT or go to australia /nz get FRANZCP. Qualify as consultant in the respective western countries and come back to Singapore to work as consultant.
To be Frank option one is not too bad, staff physician and service registrar you are practising at quite a high level. If you die die want to practise at the specialist level, UK or Aussie is the path to go. Although there will be a lot of hurdles and both countries are increasingly closed off to foreign labour.

Thinking of moving to Singapore
I am an internist and have been practicing in the US >10 yr. I am ABIM certified and also a Fellow of the American College of physicians. Due to the current politically motivated turmoil in the health care sector, I’ve been thinking about moving to Singapore. I’d like to work as a consultant in Singapore.
How should I go about getting a position? What salary / working conditions etc should I be

There's a impending doctors oversupply in Singapore, with MOHH cutting down the direct residency intake and cancelling the PEG grant for overseas medical students. Soon docs in SG will face the plight of their Malaysian counterparts in contending with low pay and the prospect of unemployment, suggest you look elsewhere while you still can instead of this overcrowded island where train breakdowns are more frequent than Bangalore.
