So rumour has it on pay cuts on recent first year Assoc who just called to bar. True or false? anyone can confirm ?

i heard about the pay cut, across the board for 1st year assocs in the big4. havent heard of similar cuts in the small, mid, or intl firms
the pay cut seems to be q substantial, from 1k to 25%.
life is tough =(

Well, MinLaw should use this opportunity to create an oversupply of lawyers, this would cause legal fees to fall, and greater access for legal services.

First year assoc pay cut by few hundred, not 1k. Heard that bonuses are on the low side as well

its nothing much to complain about. Even with the paycuts, the starting salaries are still higher than 95% of graduates from other disciplines (with the remaining 5% being the top tier finance people). It's also still higher than what most graduated would be making, even after 5 years of work experience.

so how much is the starting salary now? 7k cut to 6.5k? dont complain too much la, already said oversupply of lawyers. now got job tao chio liao, u want to b one of those fresh grad lawyers but cant become lawyer and go do some corporate legal stuff?
