How's living in Singapore as a foreign doctor?
Hi, I am Korean doctor who got doctor's license last year and just finished 1 year internship(same as house officer in UK). I am not doing any residency in south Korea yet and now taking some time to think about my future. I have some interest in doing residency abroad, so I was searching for some information about Singapore and managed to find this site.
Korea is not a good country performing as a doctor. Residents have to work as a slave and the pay is poor. It depends, but almost all specialties require 6-year-training and have to work more than 70-80 hours a week. Pay varies much, but usually it's about 3500 Singapore dollar a month during residency. Plus, due to Korean Government's ridiculous policy, we have to charge patients in absurd ways to make the least profit to run the hospital...I often feel guilty about it and it is one of many reasons made me look for the other way.
There are few inquiries for whom knows anything about the reality,
1) Is there any possibility for me when I apply for residency in Singapore? I mean, isn't it very competitive that only highly trained people can succeed till matching?
2) How much I can earn during residency in Singapore? I guess it might be more than that of Korea, but since prices are usually higher in Singapore, I might cannot afford living if there's not much difference.
3) How's the prognosis of foreign doctors after they finish training there?
