@luke: if you don’t mind, how long did you take to reach your current financial state? and what specialty are you in?

To Roger
Ignore the biased comment of slave of medicine. The medical profession is not like what he described. If not, NUS need not reject top students from medicine faculty.

To Luke
I agree that slave of medicine should quit and not tarnish the reputation of the medicine faculty.

To $$$,
I agree that students should go into medicine because of desire to help the poor and needy patients and not because of money.
However, it is difficult to choose the correct student into medicine and people do change over time.

To conclude, doctors are well paid in Singapore and top foreign doctors should consider working in Singapore to ease the medical manpower shortage
but they should be responsible and not publish biased comments about working in Singapore as these biased comments may deter us from recruiting foreign doctors for the need of an aging nation.

because your years of experience will determine how much you should be drawing. comparing a GP at the age of 30 vs 50 yrs old, a 10k salary to a 30 yrs old GP is consider high but a 10k salary to a 50 yrs old one is not.

Can't u see that as a straight As student?

i'm the one who asked you. since you are only in your early thirties 7.5k seems reasonable to me. with about 5-10% increment, you will be getting a fair deal. if you are still not happy, you can always start a private practice, but that entails taking a fair bit of risk.

No, u are not underpaid. As a GP, its not about how much money u can make. You have to put your patients' health as priority. You might have friends your age in banking sectors earning much bigger bucks, but don't be disheartened. They have the money, but you have the heart.

Frustrated at the thought of being marginalised when you can’t get into the training position of your choice?
Tired of empty promises of being accepted into an Advanced Trainee job – till the cows come home?
Keen to be able to practice real medicine instead of being tied down in endless cough and cold medicine or being under pressure to do 5 minute consults?
keen for a change in professional lifestyle?
keen for a change in workplace environment where verbal abuse and bullying is not tolerated by the Health Minister and Hospital Administrations?

doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals are desperately needed in australia now.
The current Health Minister Roxon is pumping in a lot of money into health care positions. even if the current Labour Party is voted out, the Liberal Party will continue to pump money into health, especially in rural Australia

GPs in rural australia (however will need to be on call for the local district hospital) can easily make up to A$1500 to 2000 per day - GPs, not specialist.

for an example one of the latest ads (advertised by a well known locum agency in melbourne) for a job in clinic 1.5 hour outside melbourne:
XXX HEALTH SERVICE (paye) , travel reimbursement + accomm

XX-bed hospital and provides rehabilitation, aged care, palliative care and dementia services

GP VMO (PGY5+) $1500 per day (incl On Call); $90ph Call Backs (min 2 hrs) – Required to cover Ward visits/admissions and be On call 24hrs; 4 hrs (of choice) per day on site at XXXX Health Service and then the following 4 hrs at XXXX Hospital working in ED (1800-2200).

31 July - 1 August Sat/Sun

27 August Friday, 0800 – 1 September Wednesday, 0800
