no such thing as private degree.
if you are referring to simuol etc, these are just private institutions providing advance courses.
and no, gov sector only recognises proper degrees from nus/ ntu/ smu/sudt, and rightly so.
sim/rmit/etc goes in as adv diploma

Ministries, stat board & big GLCs confirm wont recognise and will only offer diploma pay. Same goes for most MNCs although if you have 4-5 years relevant exp sometimes they are prepare to overlook and offer degree entry level exec pay. I am referring to proper full time private degree. For PT or distance learning type then most places public or pte sector wont accept.

So I can't get a better job with just a part time degree?

Not really, some diploma or private degree people have also done well - it just means you have to rely on other things like performing well, acquiring skills, expanding your professional network and playing good office politics. Quite frankly if your original plan is to rely on some part time degree bought somewhere as a ticket to jump start to a proper MX or Div 1 job in the gov, then yea time to wake up!

"a few years" is an understatement. diploma holders are placed 2 levels below deg. it will take anywhere 6-8 years depending on performance to promote twice to that level.
think abt it. if it were that simple just go in as dip & get paid for a few years can reach deg level then why would anyone bother to spend $$$ & 4 years of their life in a local uni just to get that cert?

im current in ministry, and in my dept there are indeed a few staff with part time private degree getting in as mx12-13 which is the entry grade for degree holders.
Time have changed, private degree is now accepted in ministry.

Mostly just lip service. Besides current grade, there is CEP as well. They might go in at the same grade as the usual degree holder as part of the government's "diplomas and degrees are equal" campaign, but when it comes to advancement that's when they start to get vague as no way there will be equal advancement.

Possible Of Course
Hello, this is very real in the practical world. Due to the difficulties in Uni, private or local institutions, uni grade is certainly higher and investment in education will pay off albeit not much at the initial phase.
And yes, kindly ignore the variance between private and local. It's up to your performance and how smart you work in the industry.
