Which Job to choose from ? MA or Dealer
Dear Seniors
I had 2 Jobs offers, both by two regional Asean Bank ( not too nice to diverge more info on them ), i am having a headache to choose between them.
1) MA program , Starting 4 K , bonus abt 2 mths . Basically i will be rotated around various Dept for 2 years before my role is confirmed, could be corporate banking , investment banking or Operations.
2) Junior FX Dealer on the Treasury Dept FX desk , Starting at 3.3 K , bonus is base on performance , expected to be 4 to 6 mths .
Which is more advisable for a freshie ? take up the MA program or go straight to a Front Office position.
Thanks for the advice

Depending on what kind of MA program you are being offered. Some MA programs are really the kind where they throw you, aka job rotation (sound nicer), to a dept where you might not familiar with, and you have to learn to swim there. At the end of 2 years, your new position will be would usually be based on your performance. E.g. whether you can be a Manager or Asst.Manager etc, is based on your performance. I not too sure how they choose which dept to place you in after the program though.
FX Dealer based on what you mentioned, it seems to have a significant portion based on variable salary. From my peers who worked as agents etc, they said their pay fluctuates alot from month to month, because each month your pay depending on how much time you put in and sometimes luck. Do not just think freely that you can easily earn more than 5K a month with just hard work. Sometimes is really timing, luck, and connections.
In my opinion, I would say go for the MA program, for the following reasons:
1) 4K guarantee, BUT does not mean less stress. Take note that you would be constantly being rotated through different dept. You might have to ownself put in time to study or learn in order to cope with the new dept you rotated.
2) Through the program, you could really learn alot. Just think about how many rotations you will go through. Learning and having Relevant Experience is really important for fresh graduate. Hence after 2 years, in my opinion, you will learn so much more than being a FX dealer.
3) If you do not like the new position after the MA program, work for at least 1 year, and find other job. At least you CAN have good reasons why you quit, such as to look for new opportunities etc etc.
Hence, unless you are really really really into FX trading, and want to do this in the future, (once again, dont think about how high you can earn there, is not for sure), I will strongly recommend MA program. MA or FX Dealer both are stressful and require you to perform. But the 4K guarantee and better future prospect for MA seems so much better in my opinion. HOWEVER, do prepare yourself and be ready to adapt to changes, job rotations, new people and new bosses etc etc. Don't say I never warn you.
