Default Communications / PR Jobs

Grad with a communications diploma 2 years back and have been working as an Admin asst ever since.
Thinking of switching jobs to comms/PR related but most jobs scope requires relevant work experience in it.
How to get such jobs without experience and vice versa, get relevant experience without these jobs? Any advice out there?

Comms for which industry? B2B or B2C? Comms also different type. Got internal comms, external comms.

Please provide details before we can advise. Looking at your answer, I doubt you even know what you are looking for. To me you sound like someone who wants to work in comms just because u got a diploma in comms so you need to adhere to your education.

Life is not like that....you need to know what you gd in what you bad in. Just having passion is not enuff.

i have a degree in comms.

for pr/corp comms, the desired qualities are:

-writing/presenting well

-looking good, even better if you are attractive looking and female

-know how to suck up/network with many people

Writing/presenting well - Yes, critical skill. In fact every job needs this skill.

Looking good - maybe depends very much on individual. You will be surprise that ur knowledge, the confidence that you carry around can over come that look. Btw if u have a empty vessel btw ur ears, even u look like Lee Min Ho also no use.

How to suck up/network - again depends. Suck up/network to the right person. Not everyone coz you will get yrself fired if you spend so much time on that and not working. Not every boss likes ppl to suck up to them...

not suck up/network to your boss la. if you're doing media relations, you must maintain good relationships with journalists/photographers from the media. or members of the public/stakeholders if you are doing outreach/corp comms. this is linked to looking good. a chio sweet young thing will definitely have an easier job of making people like her than if you are some ugly guy.

you give a shot at boutique PR agencies...they are more receptive in taking in fresh grads with no experience...the exposure and learning experience will be pretty worthwhile...
