Default Is 6400 SGD per Month appropriate salary? How tax is calculated?

Dear Experts,

Sorry, for the old boring discussion but your replies are going to help me a lot.

I am an Indian, Electronics Engineer, having around 6 years of experience and recently, got 6400 SGD/month offer from a Singaporean company.

----------(1)----------
Will it be a wise decision to accept the offer and move to Singapore with my FAMILY (Wife + 1 kid - 7 years old )?
If yes, How much I will be able to SAVE, if I go for an AVERAGE life style?

I would be grateful if someone posts few LATEST FIGURES about cost of living including :
1BHK flat Rent, School fees, Food, Electricity, Internet, TV Cable charges...

----------(2)----------
Also little bit confused about tax, to be paid.
As per my knowledge tax must be paid in the month of December every year.

For example, I am moving to Singapore from 1st November, 2014 onwards........
How much I will be paying in December,2014 ..... December, 2015 ..... December, 2016 ? [As per Resident and Non-resident tax rates/ rules and Year of Assessment].

Do I have to pay MORE tax for first 6 months (183 days) as I fall in non-resident category?

----------(3)----------
What ADDITIONAL BENEFITS should I get/ask from/to the company? For example, medical insurance, annual tickets...etc.

----------(4)----------
As I am also a physically disabled, are there special facilities/ schemes provided by government for persons like me?

Thanks

Default SGD 6400 pm is enuf or not

Hi,
Look at expenses
Rent 2000 pm
School fee 2000 pm (in International school, Even Singapore schools will charge at least 500 pm as you are a foreigner)
Tax 900 pm (15% is the tax rate)
Food, TV, elec, internet, mobile, etc
1500 pm
--------------------
This alone is SGD 6400 pm. What about some savings, movies, eating out, etc? I suggest you ask for at least SGD 9000 per month. Or come and live alone in Singapore with 4 other guys in a single room. Of course, all this will apply after you get EP which is doubtful these days at a salary of SGD 6400.

chum,

1. You have 6 years of experience but have a 7 year old kid. Did you get married and become a father while in Uni?

2. Confused about tax - we all are

3. Will your company provide all these benefits? Most companies do not, not if they are willing to pay only $6400 per month. Is this a hire-and-fire contract job? We have enough folks from India already.

4. You aer also physically disabled. You expect Singapore govt to provide you facilities???? Buses and trains in Singapore are disabled friendly. What else you expect? Handicapped allowance of $5000 per month? You are sick....

come on now thats a bit far, he may have been a bit vague in his details and somewhere entitled , but calling him sick?

to the original TS: a big question mark is whether you can get an EP (which is quite tough nowadays), so i suggest you don't burn bridges with your existing job and see whether the offer is firm and there is a definite EP before resigning your current job.

singapore is quite disabled friendly, buses and trains all have disabled freindly features (including malls). imho , it is quite a good place for physically disabled people to live...

The tax is paid based on income from 1 Jan to 31 Dec, and paid in next year between April -Aug. Assuming you are earning at least 1 month bonus, so annual income S$ 83200, tax is S$ 3700. you can choose to pay monthly installment basis or in one off payment. So the above tax rate 900 pm is not correct.

House rent 2000 (min)+ kids school fees 500-600+food and bills 1500-1800+transportation for office 100+ tax 300 pm + others 300. I believe it is possible to manage within 5000 pm for a decent living, not luxury, unless you want to spend more for housing.

No need to send kids to international school, local schools education quality better than international school.

Singapore transportation is very much disable friendly. In fact one of the best in the world. Surely, if you are not you cannot expect any disable benefits from government.

Our friend in TS is asking for benefits/schemes for physically disabled. He does not ask is the transport is handicapped friendly. What exactly is benefit/scheme? Does he expect a check to be sent to his home as he is physically disabled....
