Post Fresh grad no internship experience

Hello,

I am a eng student graduating this year and is in the midst of job hunting. I have a good CAP and some CCA records. but i did not do any internship as I went for exchange and other research programmes. would like to ask it this a big problem when applying for jobs? how much weights would the employer put on past working experiences

private:
connections > internship > grades > CCA/exchange.

not sure about research program tho. if it is related to the coy maybe can fall under the internship cat.

public:
grades > internship/research > CCA/exchange.

certain positions may place heavier focus on CCA/exchange tho.

If you have to ask such a question, I think not having internship experience would not be your only problem. .

Just stick with government jobs.

That really depends on the industry you are looking to join. If looking to join a eng the lack of an external internship is not particularly important as that's your course of study and its not that competitive unless you are looking for grad programmes at major MNC.

However if like a majority of people in this sub forum you have developed a sudden interest in the finance industry while studying in university, then yes the lack of an internship will deter you from getting into the industry.

Sophie, what this TR said is true, but partially. In life, embrace experiences of others but always lean toward positivism. I am a NUS comp eng grad, no internship experience at all, but I got into DBS O&T GA.

All the best.

I think we need to be clear what the finance industry entails. Doing ops & tech in the finance industry is not much different from doing ops and tech in any basically any other industry. While technically you're in the finance industry, you definitely don't need any special industry knowledge nor internship getting into such a position. And I highly doubt anyone's passion in the finance industry consist of doing mundane repetive paper work.

To be really honest? It's really not that hard. Their MA program is prestigious like any other banks' MA program. But grad program and MA are on a whole different level. Why do you think the grad program is created for ops and tech. Because no one in the right mind in a MA program wants to be stuck doing ops or tech work. They have the same basic requirement but the GA program are just picking off the bones of whatever is left after the MA (and other banks MA) has taken the choice parts.

Even the selection is slipshod. 1 virtual interview and 1-2 panel interviews? MA has to go through half day or full day assessment centres before even being considered for panel interviews. I mean come on even ntuc fairprice managment trainee selection was more interesting than this.
