This illustration is unrealistic and way too simple. There are many many layers between Finance Manager to FC and even more between FC and CFO. If not the market will be filled with CFOs with 10 years exp. Unless you are refering to fake FC and CFO titles, I do not think career progression is so streamlined and fast.

An internal audtior's role in a bank is totally different from an external one like that of a big4. Generally if you are an external auditor with some years of experience, it is unlikely a bank will hire you straight to some internal audit role. The scope and expertise is quite different.

Great Future of an auditor. He/She must be a team player. Particularly in industry with larger association within a limited timeline, you must work with other auditors to be able to carry a complete report on the association.

As an financial auditor, i believe there are many career opportunity as you progress. Public Accounting Firms (CPA/Audit Firms) are still highly value in my opinion.
***Point to note; a lot of Co. or people will tell you that you only have audit experiences and no commercial experiences (should you join Commercial) and try to cut your pay. Think about it, if they don't want you - they won't even bother calling you up for interview. Co. are just trying to cut and slash external auditors as much as possible, i firmly believe my audit life is where i have grown into a professional in terms of exposure and learning how to use/interpret the numbers to help Cos.***

(i) Audit (3-4 years) -> Commercial (Accountant/Analyst 1-2 years) -> Commercial (Finance Manager for another 5-10 years) then moving up to FC and then finally CFO.
Typically, moving out to commercial taking up accounts role will make your life stable and routine. Enjoy the stable income and flow with the water...
(ii) Audit (3-4 years) -> Commercial (Internal Auditor) -> Promote within the existing hierarchy, with a chance to go back into Public Accounting.
Typically, IA similar to EA, exposes you to full scope of the Co.
Business/Financial Risks of all aspect are still shown to you, more challenging compared to being (i).
(iii) Audit (3-4 years) -> Stay in audit, tahan all the way till Partner.
Well, you know that life.
I mean, you know that - its lifeless unless u hit partner =)
Per my knowledge from my HR Director from a MNC Firm, Generally Auditors are highly valued at 3years experience (obtained CPA) or 6 years experience (CPA + Managerial Role) in Commercial. Anything more then that, somewhat doesnt make any more differences.
In any case, should you be specialise in auditing banks before, ho seh!

I am a ex-Big 4 auditor which took the (i) route.

Just left Big 4 without a job, i think the important thing is to short out which path you want to take.
But try not to stay in a path too long that you don't have any interest in.

^I agree.
If you know what you want just go straight into it. If otherwise undecided, joining big 4 allows you to sort things out and find a job outside (relatively easily) after you get the relevant experience.

It's quite an old thread but there's little discussion on audit roles in this forum and don't want to start a new thread.
Was looking around for benchmarks of salaries in auditing to get a gauge of what i'm getting. Currently in an IA role doing mainly SOX compliance in a non-financial firm (market research industry), MNC. Have about 6 years of prior experience drawing $6.2k/month. What would be the salary range for someone who has a similar profile as myself?

I think quality auditors are different from what I was describing, not much much idea on it. Was looking more of financial auditor, typically accountants by training. Anyone knows?
