What I can tell you fresh pie grads is, it is no surprise for pet grads to get in to bulge bracket banks operations or big 4 accounting firm. It is indeed however, close to impossible for pet grads to get into trading or dealing role within any banks or investment institutions. I have graduated 3 years ago, and I'm now in operations drawing 4.9k. In no way am I trying to brag. I just want you guys to understand it is possible to get paid this range and work in a bulge bracket. But this is by no means above average. It is BS compared to trading and dealing fellas. Good luck.

So Rude and you are one that is oblivious to reality. In accounting/audit, experience over qualifications. There are a lot of evidence to support as you can see even a diploma holder within 3 to 4years is drawing $3K. Who would want to hire a person without full set experience?

SIM GE Degree with local polytechnic engineering diploma.

2009 - 2k (in SME)
2010 - 2.7k (Given transport allowance and confirmation increment)
2011 - 3.5k (Joined bigger SME)
2011 - 3.5k (Left job at bigger SME for 3 month and join another smaller SME)
2012 - 3.8k (left mid 2012, 300 increment)
2013 - 4.2k (Joined GLC)
2014 - 4.7k (Increment + promotion to Junior Manager)
2015 - 4.9k (Normal increment)
2016 - 5.7k (Increment + adjustment)
2017 - 6.5k (Joined stat board, related field to GLC, head hunted because of construction skill set.)

Dont believe people whom said SIM GE no future. Am now in civil services, grow your experience and more opportunities will come.

While your experience so far is satisfactory average degree PME level, I don't think a 6.5k salary after 9 years says anything. Nobody is seriously saying SIM grad has no future (i.e. totally cannot move up), more like usually comparison against local uni wise it is much slower.

Considering a fresh FCH grad is going in civil service at 4.1k now, your story pretty much affirms that career trajectories are generally slower for private grads compared to local grads. And also generally in the market, I don't think anyone would classify being recruited into a stat board with a 6.5k salary being "head hunted".

I managed to join the public sector and after 6 years I am actually on par and even did better than some of my local uni batch mates. I am from sim-rmit btw.

It is inevitable foreign uni is not that popular, well the rankings isn't that great. Likewise a nus or but vs a Harvard graduate, the Harvard graduate would be preferred most of the time.

Some of my uni batch mates went on to be entrepreneur, sales and various banking positions and some of them are earning several hundred thousands a year. Heck there is a millionaire car workshop boss I know who only has an 'O' level cert.

Sometimes it boils down to opportunity and luck. Luck only favors those who take action in the opportunity. Things may be hard but if you decide to wallow in your regrets, nothing is gonna help.

Well for a start the owner of nutri first is from rmit-sim. The millionaire car workshop boss, he doesn't even have Facebook. There are a lot of successful sales personnel that doesn't even have a degree.

I never said it is easy. In fact I agreed that having a private degree really make things harder. But if you are bound by your past regrets you cannot move on. Likewise if you are too arrogant about your success you won't know things will just crumble down.

The idea is to try your very best and take action to move on. Life is unpredictable.
