How is HR in banking sector like? How is the career progression and increment like? So how high/ much would I achieve after 5 yrs in bank?
I was just offered a HR position in a foreign bank. $4.2k monthly with 1 year exp. Graduated from local uni 2 yrs ago.

Money is good but banks mostly pay you to leave your brain and ethics at the door. The key to success is to network aggressively and generally agree with and parrot whatever Directors and MDs say. If you have an intense desire to think and have a mind of your own, you will be disenfranchised and unhappy after awhile. But hey, the money is good.

Erm I dun think there's any real local MNC around, even the big ones like Keppel, STE, Capitaland, Singtel etc have very limited presence overseas.
All I can say is for local companies, you just have to be realistic on pay. If you truly want to do HR, 2.3k is way below market, but then a local company HR Exec is probably a more admin based job rather than really HR, so 2.3k is quite decent.

HR is a pure back office support role, so you need to be realistic how much you can get in a sales driven environment like a bank.
4.2k is soso pay for 2 yr exp because banks don't pay aws and have below average variable bonus for BO. If you take the total package and adjust for no aws and lower bonus, it works out to be ~3.7k monthly by normal terms which is average pay for 2 yr exp.

For a Kaplan cert it is not possible to get a proper HR associate job in a MNC straight away, I think the offer from the local company is not bad already. He should accept the job and get some experience first.

Unless this is some ikan bilis company, dun think you can just ask for $$$ after 3 mths in the co. Likely need to wait for the proper increase cycle.

base on reading this thread, it looks like the starting pay between admin base HR exec (2-3k) and HR specialization (5-6k) is really big...
currently studying engineering degree and not interested in doing admin type of hr job, just asking to specialize in hr wat sort of additional qualification i need?

Qualification matters less than experience. Try for an internship as a student, it'll open doors if you are an outstanding intern.
