starting in the service early and you get bored, it shows this job is not for you. i joined as a fresh grad and i find it immensely challenging. and nope, if you have the skills set they require, they will also take you in regardless of age. some job scopes requires technical knowledge and experience.

Oh thks for replying to my query!
I should provide more info, I'm a 32 yr old looking for a mid-career change, saw open positions for Finance Executive (Budget Mgmt) and Executive (Expenditure Control Policy) and saw that some of my working exp in accounting/audit might be relevant, so thought of applying.
I also see that it does say 'Candidates with no experience may apply'. Good to know in case end up like I think some of my exp might be relevant, but actually not.

really depends on what the boss wants. is really timing.
if you kena the timing where they in need of experience people to learn fast and apply fast, then you have advantage.
if you meet a boss who wants to cultivate a new generation/batch of officers, learn from scratch, then you have advantage.
in all, my advice is to show good attitude during interview.

In regards to the above quote, if u start in civil service too early, could be one might get bored cos things move slow in there. If you start too late like after 35, might not be able to get in?

Got apply big 4?? they prefer local uni grad apparently and u should have better chance of getting in..
with a non-local degree, its hard to get in big4.. i will still submit my application when there's a chance, but its pretty slim.. so was thinking if i manage to land on the mindef dxo job, i could take on SQP and be a chartered accountant and by then my contract should ends, shall see to continue or head back into industry..

Applied for position in late July and went for PT on 4 Aug. Got called for interview 2 weeks later, went down for a written test + interview yesterday! Hoping to get a response fast since everyone says MINDEF will usually call you back within 2-3 days if they want you....
P.S. I'm not a local grad! Didn't think I'd have a chance to be called up for interview even. Interviewers were very nice and seemed keen! Fingers crossed!

I see. I agree, in order to enter local uni does take quite alot of effort and ur grades got to be relatively good already (extremely so if u go in via poly route)
But i hope they dont just straight condemn non-local uni student and not even giving them a chance haha, after all education is just a part of it.. there are ppl who work well but dont study as well, vice versa.. At least grant them an interview if they are "suitable" and see how it goes..
