They are more equivalent to VP in a lot of banks, to say that AVP average pay is 7k-8k is nonsense. I suggest those who dun know anything about SGX please just keep quiet and don’t anyhow humtum base on what the bank you happen to know is doing.

Well for local banks you need 5 to 8 years to hit avp as well. And avp is an associate band position.
As others have mentioned, pls come up with facts to support your points. Talk without facts is cheap.

I don’t know about DBS or OCBC, but I used to work in UOB and I’m 100% sure you don’t need 5-8 years to reach AVP. For me it’s 3 years (1 year associate + 2 years am) to reach AVP, some of my peers a little slower is 2+2, ie 4 years to reach AVP. Those on accelerated MA program after 1.5 years also AVP.

Depends on front or back office. For dbs/ ocbc, it tales about 4 to 5 to get to avp if u are front office. Back office can take 8 to 10 years.

If that’s the case I’m surprised that some people say only 7k for AVP… seems low for so many years experience, even lower than a lot of non-banking industry?!

For same number of years, even teachers make more than bank avps. But of course, teaching is a much harder job.

When people in the finance industry tell the facts about banking pay, a whole group of non-banking people will ridicule them, say not possible, BS, where got so high blah blah blah
But the fact is even in this forum so many people are desperately hoping to get into a bank. Why? Because they know banks pay really well. If it is really like some people say after working so 5 -10 yrs can only reach 7k avp you think anyone will bother to keep trying to get into banks? Might as well join a normal MNC with work life balance also around 6k as a manager after a few years.

that is why ppl only talk about getting into front office, and not back office. Also $7 to 9k is not that bad after 8 to 10 yrs, when u are in the least attractive area in the industry.

Let me rephrase that.
"Also $7 to 9k is not that bad after 8 to 10 yrs, when u are in the least attractive area in the industry (ie back office), and work for the least attractive paymasters (ie the local banks)."

To check what the other poster said, pls advise if u are front or back office.
Also was your pay in the $7 to 9k range?

Doubt it
I'm not the poster from UOB. But im pretty sure the base salary for AVP in local banks is lower than 7k. Unless u include bonuses/commissions earned at front office.
7-9k is more like a VP's pay at a local bank. Anyone can confirm?
