It seems like AVP is like a assistant manager in a MNC. Banks tend to have glamourize title. Sought of a larger than life titles.

What I realized in this forum after a while is, empty vessels like that above make the most noise. They come out, hide behind the shroud of anonymity, do not engage in civilized discourse, and insult other posters when reality is that they know next to nothing.

In international investment banks (ie barcap), avp is an associate band position. ie
Analyst for all banks are entry level positions
Associate/Avp (barclays) is associate (Deutsche) is associate director (ubs)
VP (b) is associate director (d) is director (u)
Director (b) is director (d) is executive director (u)
MD for all 3 banks is the same

i think you should look at finance and banking section of jobs directory. they have all of your answers.
as long as you're a diploma or degree holder you could be an analyst.
btw, the word 'analyst' is too loosely used. some 'analysts' may be overseeing paperworks to detect and analyse trade errors. some 'analysts' analyse the market and produce reports. it all depend on the job scopre.

How does this compare to local banks? For Barclays Corp, they use Associate Director and not VP only Barcap uses VP structure.
Deutche bank uses VP also

Yes, you are right. And even within the same bank, some parts of the bank may use VP and others AD. Banks you have to watch out for when u move have an additional executive director rank between director and MD. If u move to those banks (like UBS ) u have to negotiate for a higher rank as there is rank inflation.
For local banks, there tends to be many more ranks, so mapping is more difficult. In general, avp and below is equivalent to associate, VP is equivalent to VP or AD, and svp equivalent to director. pay for equivalent rank tends to be about 20 to 40% lower. So again, when u negotiate, be aware that u are not moving to a lower rank at the foreign house (even though u get a pay bump).

Some people here seem to have no clue to SGX titles and just assume AVP at SGX = Associate / Analyst at IB. This is definitely not true. AVP in SGX is someone who has about 5 years relevant experience, it is definitely not entry level position.
They are more equivalent to VP in a lot of banks, to say that AVP average pay is 7k-8k is nonsense. I suggest those who dun know anything about SGX please just keep quiet and don’t anyhow humtum base on what the bank you happen to know is doing.
