I'm considering to get a 2nd hand HDB so that i can have more cash on hand but she's looking at private condo.. If we are really getting a private condo, then HH income of $16K is hardly just enough.
Your combined basic is over 16K/mth and u cannot afford a condo?? Cannot be lah, unless u are a big spender or are thinking of those prime condos >1500psf

My combined basic is 10K/mth and I can comfortably pay for my OCR condo....

Default similitudes illnte

Take home (after CPF deductions) 4k/mth. Give parents $850/mth, they keep asking for increments ...

When I started off with a take home of 2k/mth, parents demanded $500/mth.

My parents are very frank about their demands..... Perhaps I shld also frankly tell them that if this continues I'll never have enough $ to afford children. That shld keep them quiet for a while ... hahaha

Majority of the private condo has alrdy crossed 1,00psf mark and a decent unit would cost at least $1.2M, including the OCR ones.
We don't intend to contribute too much to bank's profit by overloading ourselves with hugh interests. I would be happy to finish my loan for a resale HDB in 5 yrs, and save up the remaining for investments and for my kids (assuming we are fertile). If there's any spare cash after the 5th yr, invest it on the 2nd property and rent it out. Anyway, given the hectic lifestyle, I doubt I would even have time to enjoy the facilities in a condo more than twice/week (Sat & Sun). So what's the point to get a private condo, take up a 1M loan and slave for the banks for 30yrs?

regarding giving $$ to grandma, I think it is your parent responsibility to give $$$ to grandma or the grandma's children, not you (grand children..). I also never give $$ to grandma. When I visit her, occasionally will buy grandma her favorite food like sushi/curry puff/during cakes...etc, that's all.

I earn 3.7k(b4 CPF), give 800-1000/mth to parents....already....

Anyway, I dun think any monetary amount is ever enough to repay our parents. (assuming that the kids come from a complete and loving family) For me, I take the $1,000/mth allowance more of "tibits" allowance for them. My war chest is always open for them whenever they need it for any rational usage. The same applies for my future-in laws.
We should never let money dictates our relationship, especially kinship.

I'm in a similar situation. I have take home of 2k/mo and I support them with 700/month+paying phone bills+misc fees+hdb property tax.

Now I'm increasingly thinking that its kind of impossible to have enough savings to marry+buy HDB flat(current one is not enough as my parents are renting the extra rooms to other people)+have kids.

Hope the property market crash.

You should start small then slowly increase. That's quite bad planning because you don't save much and won't be able to even afford HDB. What about wedding, renovation and furniture?

I feel for you. All I can tell you is don't care how he spend the money. Just do your part.
