Default Sunset industry

Electronics manufacturing is a sunset industry. It is not worth investing your time in this industry.

Does anyone work at Micron? Heard that their interview is quite tough. Is the work there overwhelming??

I was working in Micron 1 year back.. Culture is varying among their sites..
- MSA: quite slacking.. not much career prospects, job scope (technical wide) quite easy.
- TECH (now Fab 7): pay is above avg in industry, but it is "under-staffed" strategy i.e you need to work longer hrs (expected).. and your career promotion is baed on the no. of hrs u spent in office..
- IMFS (Fab 10): this is newly opened fab, culture is the best among Micron's Spore site as its leadership team is driven by IMFT's (@Utah)..Career prospect is better than in TECH > better than MSA: because of the manufacturing capacity ~ they will need more people.
- a newly acquired fabs producing PCM (phase-changed memory) forgot its name..

* TECH produce DRAM, IMFS: NAND, while MSA: test assembly.. as you know, DRAM is declining, so 5-10 years down the road there are not much career prospect in DRAM..
* however, Micron is financially better than other DRAM producers in the world because: they got good technology, good cash reserved, and other competiors: Hynix & Elpida is about to burst. So, it's your call..

At the end of day, if you are a guy with great passion & ambitition, joining semiconductor will not give you good satisfaction.. Many ex-Micron employees resigned and said: "never go back there again".. Recently a lot of engineers & low-level managers guys from TECH resigned to join Phillip (even their pay in the later is lower..). It's the working culture citied as the top reason for their resign.

PS:

PS:
People, please don't waste your life in manufacturing... There is no hope for this industry here.. Your wages will always be suppressed because of cheaper foreign labour.. you invest your youth in this industry only to be retrench when you are old and expensive... Please consider very carefully before you jump into this lake of fire... Unless you want a second career driving taxi... Life is too short to be wasted this way...
